Ashley & David's Wedding at Black Rock Country Club | Hingham, Massachusetts
Ashley and David were easy from the very first call — though the booking story starts with Ashley's sister, who had questions.
She ran through them thoroughly and protectively, and then gave the whole thing her blessing — Ashley booked within the hour of saying she'd discuss it. They showed up to their wedding day the same way: fully in it, comfortable with each other, with a group of bridesmaids who matched their energy exactly.
Black Rock Country Club is a property I've photographed many times over the years, but a full ballroom ceremony in March light made it feel like a first.
The morning
before everything begins.
Ashley and her bridesmaids got ready at the residents' business center at their apartment complex — two bright, spacious rooms with great light that worked better than most hotel suites I've been in. Everyone was excited, not anxious, and the energy fed on itself in the best way. Her gown had a subtle floral pattern tucked behind the first layer along the hem — the kind of detail you'd walk right past if you weren't looking.
The moment
it all becomes real.
The ceremony took place inside the ballroom, rearranged beautifully for the occasion — the first indoor ceremony I've photographed at Black Rock in years of working there. Before the processional, one very committed groomsman walked the aisle distributing High Noon hard seltzers to every guest, which landed exactly the way they were hoping it would. Ashley had done a first look earlier, but the cathedral-length veil was new — and David's reaction when she walked in was everything.
Just the two
of them.
We started at Hole 16 — a sweeping natural rock wall along the course that gives you scale you can't manufacture — then moved back toward the ballroom as the afternoon went on. The light was strong and direct, so I kept mostly to backlit setups: warm subject, bright sky. After parent dances, we made a quick exit outside and caught a March sunset that had no business being that good.
Where the night
takes over.
The dance floor was packed all night, which starts with one thing: Ashley and David were on it, and when the couple dances, everyone else follows. Near the end of the night, Ashley dedicated her bouquet to her mom — and I caught her mom's reaction on camera, one of the best frames of the whole day.
Let's make something
like this together.
I shoot at Black Rock Country Club regularly and know the property well — the light at Hole 16, the way the ballroom transforms for a ceremony, and exactly when to get outside before the sunset disappears. If you're planning your wedding there, I'd love to hear about your day.
