Nantucket does something to wedding photography that's hard to explain until you see it. The light is different out there. The landscape is specific — grey-shingled, weathered, Atlantic-facing — in a way that gives every frame a character you can't manufacture anywhere on the mainland. It's one of the most naturally photogenic places in New England and it has nothing to do with being manicured. It's just itself.
I've photographed a wedding on the Siasconset Bluff Walk as the wind came off the ocean, at Sankaty Lighthouse on the eastern bluffs with the Atlantic stretching out behind us, and at Brant Point as a string trio played and nineteen people watched two people choose each other at the mouth of the harbour. That day is still one of my favorites.
